Well-respected Pilates expert Katya Kinski has made a name for herself in South African Pilates circles. Indeed her loyal clientele have coined the phrase ‘The Kinski Method’ to describe her unique approach to Pilates. Katya’s vast depth of knowledge in the field, motivational techniques and signature quirky humour have inspired clients and students for decades.
Katya’s journey to Pilates was a logical progression following her background as a professional Russian ballerina. She qualified at one of Russia’s top ballet schools, the Perm State Ballet College, and went on to join the Russian State Ballet, Moscow, in 1991, where she proceeded to perform on some of the world’s most renowned stages. Her ballet days included a stint at Cape Town City Ballet where she performed principal roles in productions such as Swan Lake, Giselle and Anna Karenina.
Katya went on to launch her career in Pilates in 2001, completing her ten months comprehensive training with Canadian Stott Master Trainer, Miriane Braaf-Taylor. She completed her worldwide certification with NPCP (formerly known as Pilates Method Alliance PMA®) in 2008. Over the years, Ms Kinski has participated in numerous postgraduate courses (SI Joint Dysfunction, Spinal Biomechanics, Shoulder Rehab, Muscle Activation, Body Sensing, Fascial Fitness, Kinetic Precision, Lyno®) adding many more bows to her already impressive quiver.
As founding member of Pilates Academy SA, Katya also takes great pride in training medical and healthcare practitioners to become certified Pilates instructors. The Academy’s many popular courses are CPD accredited by Stellenbosch University.
Katya Kinski Pilates Studio’s clients include celebrities, elite athletes and dedicated amateur sportsmen interested in refining their technique for better results on and off the sportsfield.
